What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Be honest.
If you’re like many people, beside using the bathroom and brushing your teeth, you probably grab your cell phone or whatever electronic device you own and scroll on social media to see what’s been going on in the world while you’ve been sleeping.
In Mark 1:35, the Bible tells us that Jesus did something else. It reads, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there he prayed.”
In other words, Jesus connected with God first before He connected with people.
As I read this passage this morning (during my solitary prayer time), it moved me to write this message and pose the following questions…
Do you wonder what happened to your power over the years? You used to be on fire for God. What happened? Why have you been weakened spiritually?
There was a time when you boldly stood through anything and defied everything the enemy threw in your face. Why are you fearful of his behavior now?
You’ve been sick and the Lord raised you up before. Why are you despondent now after hearing the latest report from your doctor?
I believe the Lord revealed the problem through this word today. Let’s work on fixing it!
From this day forward when you wake up in the morning, leave your phone or tablet where it is (it’s not going anywhere!).
Pick up your Bible instead (a printed version will keep you from being distracted).
Read it, and then pray!
Be like Jesus!
Connect with God first!
