Who Are You Bringing To Church?

Mark 1:23a

As a pastor, I get excited when I see members of our congregation bringing guests to a worship service or Bible Study.  After all, new faces in the congregation should be one of the results of our daily witnessing.

But what if the “guest” is unwanted?

In our scripture verse found in Mark 1:23, when Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath, the Bible reads, “Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit.”

People of God, there are all kinds of unclean spirits that accompany believers to church every Sunday: Lying spirits, deceiving spirits, lustful spirits, fornicating spirits, sexually-deviant spirits, adulterous spirits, jealous spirits, contentious spirits, angry spirits, selfish spirits.

But, if you keep reading the text, after the service at the synagogue was over, the man left by himself!

Jesus cast that unclean spirit out! (Mark 1:25-26)

So, if you’re planning to bring an unwanted guest (an unclean spirit or two) with you to church, bring them to the altar with you as well.

If your church has Holy Ghost power, you’ll leave by yourself!
