Psalm 42:5

2016 Frieda P. Smith

In Psalm 42:5, the Psalmist asked himself a question, “Why am I discouraged?  Why is my heart so sad?”

However, after asking the question, the Psalmist offered himself the answer:  ”I will put my hope in God!  I will praise Him again—my Savior and my God!” New Living Translation

All of us—at one time or another—struggle through seasons of sadness.  Whether it is ushered in by death, sickness, poverty, or rejection, we all experience feelings associated with low spirits.

Yet, have you ever stopped and asked yourself a question about your sadness?

If you are a believer on the Lord Jesus Christ, why are you discouraged and sad so much when you have God, who promised to send the Holy Spirit, Who is our Comforter?  Just like the fluffy comforter on your bed, can’t you feel the warmth and security of His Presence around you?

As you feel it, you will do as the Psalmist did;  he quickly exchanged his sadness for praise!  He declared, “I will praise Him again.”

My friends, regardless of what is happening in your life right now, cheer up!  God is still on the throne, and He is still worthy to be praised!

Shake off your low spirits and exchange it for a garment of praise! Praise Him again!  And when you get finished, Praise Him again!  When you do, I guarantee you will…

Cheer up!
