Obedience Leads To Blessings!

John 2:5

 2016 Frieda P. Smith

On this past weekend, I was blessed to witness the “fruit” or the product of my obedience to the voice of the Lord.  Twelve years ago, after four years serving in an outreach ministry, the Lord said, “Plant the church.”  By faith—with a total of thirteen people—we planted the Rehoboth Christian Church.

I cannot take credit, because it was not my idea to plant Rehoboth.  IT WAS GOD’S!  I was only being OBEDIENT.

In June of 2008, (four years after I became the pastor of Rehoboth), I received a call from the Macedonia Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY.  They needed a musician and asked if I knew anyone who was available.  While going through the files I store in my brain, the Lord said, “What’s wrong with you?”  I answered the Lord, saying, “Excuse me?  I’m pastoring now.  I don’t play anymore.”  The Lord said, “Who told you to retire?  Go down there and play for them!”

In a spirit of OBEDIENCE, I went to Macedonia after my service was over every Sunday, and served as their organist for five years.  I did not know it at the time, but it was a set up!

God is ALWAYS up to something!

While sitting at the organ at Macedonia during those five years, I began to notice a young, energetic, and anointed young man named G. Morris Coleman who would come in and preach on a regular basis.  He was on fire!!!

By the end of 2014, my health began to fail.  It became so bad, I could not preach or sing due to the condition of my heart and lungs. My once flourishing church plant, Rehoboth, was keeling over.  I needed someone to bring Rehoboth back to life in my absence.

The Lord spoke.  “Call Minister Coleman and have him do a Sunday morning revival for the entire month of April.”  In OBEDIENCE to the voice of the Lord, I did.  The people of Rehoboth received him and his wife warmly, and in September of 2015, we installed Elder G. Morris Coleman as the pastor of the Rehoboth Christian Church.

This past Sunday, we celebrated our 12th church anniversary together in our own building!  It brought tears to my eyes, seeing all the original people who weathered the wilderness wandering with me, and the new members who have recently joined under Pastor Coleman’s leadership, all worshiping together!

What is my point?  John 2:5 reads, “Whatever He (The Lord) says to you, do it!”

Obedience leads to blessings!
