1 Peter 3:10
2016 Frieda P. Smith
The Apostle Peter wrote these words, recorded in 1 Peter 3:10, “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.”
The word “refrain” means to “keep oneself from doing, feeling, and indulging in something.”
The Apostle was writing to believers–church folks. Therefore, we can conclude that he acknowledged that all of us have the tendency to entertain evil thoughts every now and then.
Nevertheless, the Apostle in essence said, “Every evil thought that enters our mind does not need to exit our mouth!”
There are some thoughts that never, ever need to be expressed.
Yes, we know you are mad, hurt, embarrassed, and feel disrespected—we see it in your face and hear it in your voice—but please don’t say what is sitting right on the tip of your tongue!
Re-read the Scripture above. We want you to see good days!
Don’t say it!
