Good Friday Is Better than Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is February 14th.  It is a day when couples demonstrate their love for one another.  Cards, gifts, candy, and even engagements rings are given, all for a one-day display of love.

Isn’t that special?

However, Good Friday is better than Valentine’s Day!

In Romans 5:8, we find these words written by the Apostle Paul to the believers in the church at Rome, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.

On Good Friday, God—our Father—did not send us chocolates and Hallmark greeting cards.  God demonstrated His own love toward us by sending His only Begotten Son Jesus to the cross to die for us WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS!

Can we keep it real?  Do you think you would have gotten that box of candy, card, or engagement ring had you shown up for your date on Valentine’s Day looking a mess?  Would your boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife have been excited  at the restaurant to see you with your hair undone, face unshaven, teeth not brushed, clothes not ironed and matching?

Does he or she love you that much?

But look at our God!  While we were still sinners–all messed up–Christ loved us enough to die for us!   He did not wait for us to “clean up;”  He died for us in the condition we were in.

Now that–my friends–is true love!  For this cause I believe,

Good Friday is better than Valentine’s Day.
