Sit Down And Wait!

Luke 24:49

2015 Frieda P. Smith

In the Gospel according to Luke, Peter and John were present when Jesus gave these instructions to His disciples. .Jesus declared in Luke 24:49, “Behold I send the promise of my Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

In order for His disciples to receive supernatural Promise—the Holy Spirit—they had to follow the instructions: “Tarry in the city of Jerusalem until endued with power from on high”.

There are some people reading this message who are waiting on the arrival of a supernatural promise that the Lord made to you. For something to qualify as supernatural, the natural has to be unable to produce it on its own.

Someone has been struggling in a bad marital situation, and the Lord has promised to restore your marriage; it would take a supernatural move of God at this point because you have had enough. You been so wounded and hurt, there is nothing left.

There is someone else whom the Lord promised to deliver you from an addiction or depression or oppression or aggression; it would take a miracle, because you have been through rehab and counseling but nothing has changed.

God promised to deliver you, and you are now waiting for the arrival of your promise.

Well, I hate to tell you this (I really do), but the reason your promise may not have arrived may be your own fault.

You see, when Jesus made the promise to His disciples that the Holy Spirit would come upon them, they had to tarry in the city of Jerusalem in order to receive Him (The Promise).

When we look at the word “tarry”, our English minds translate it as “wait”. However, the original Greek word in the context of this passage does not simply mean to wait; it means “to sit down and wait”.

My friends, some of you are holding up the arrival of your promise, because you will not sit down and wait! You are all over the place! You are running to every conference, letting everybody lay hands on you, calling every prayer line, running behind every prophet, typing “Amen” on everybody’s so-called Facebook prophecy, but the Lord told me to tell you it does not take all of that.

If you want to receive the supernatural promises of God, it is simple.  Do what the Lord says and then…

Sit down and wait!
