Philippians 4:11

2015 Frieda P. Smith

While taking prayer requests on our prayer line this morning, one of our regular callers/warriors requested prayer for a friend who had been suddenly laid off from his job. For a moment, I recalled the struggle of the past two years after losing income due to illness and I stated, “Either God will change his circumstances (provide him with another job), or God will change him so he can handle his circumstances.”

In Philippians 4:11, the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the believers at Philippi, “Not that I speak in respect of want, but I have learned in whatever state I am to be content”.

My friends, there is something to learn about God in every situation. During my season of affliction, I learned that although I prayed my financial circumstances would change quickly, it did not. Yet, during the struggle I learned that God really is Jehovah Jireh. God is Our Provider.

I eat every single day. I have clean water to drink. I have somewhere to call home. It is not new, but I have a car to drive. My health is not great, but I have great doctors and great health insurance.

I do not know to whom I am writing, but although you may have lost your job or source of income, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, trust me; all is not lost.

In the midst of your circumstances, never forget that God is still Jehovah Jireh. Not only will He will provide for your needs, He will provide you with ways to adjust your resources, your spending patterns, and even your overall perspective so you can live your life in contentment until your change comes.

Until it does, look yourself in the mirror and declare…

I will not complain!
