Don’t Get It Twisted!

Matthew 6:19-21

2015 Frieda P. Smith

The more I listen and watch the behavior of many Christians in this present world, the more I realize we have it twisted.

In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus stated these words to His disciples (followers), “ Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; (20) but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor dust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.

People of God, the spirit of materialism has attached itself to many of us, and instead of reaching the lost for Christ, all many of us seem to focus on is how much treasure we can accumulate here on earth.

“Gucci this, Gucci that.”

“Michael Kors this. Michael Kors that.”

“Mercedes Benz. BMW’s.”

There is nothing wrong with possessing nice things here on earth, but when it becomes our sole objective in life, we have it twisted!

For Jesus said, “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor dust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (21) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.

My friends, this is a word of encouragement for those who have few earthly treasures, but have been storing up great treasures in heaven.

You see, we are not going to be on earth forever. Eventually, this earthly life will be over, and if you have given your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, you are heaven bound.

It will be a shame to be walking around looking fabulous here on earth and but looking busted in heaven because you never bothered to “lay up for yourself treasures in heaven.”
