1st Peter 5:8-10
2015 Frieda P. Smith
In my post two days ago, I reminded the people of God that we have goods—valuables—within us that need to be protected. It is a shame to spend thousands of dollars on alarms systems to protect our homes and cars, but spend little to protect the valuables the Lord deposited within us.
If I may set the scene, we find Jesus having a discussion with some of the scribes shortly after Jesus entered their synagogue on the Sabbath and broke one of the laws of Moses by hosting a healing and deliverance service. After being accused by the Jewish leaders of being of the kingdom of satan, Jesus called these Jewish leaders to Himself and spoke a parable to them, recorded in Mark 3:27, “No one can enter a strongman’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his goods.”
People of God, in the natural, there are intruders who are waiting for you to rush out of the door one day without locking it so they can enter and plunder your goods. The Greek word for “plunder” literally means, “To snatch away completely”. In other words, they want to clean you out, leaving nothing behind but a mess!
Likewise, in the spirit world, there are intruders who are lurking, waiting to catch you unaware, so they can plunder your temple and steal your spiritual goods.
In the text that serves as the foundation of this inspirational message for today, 1 Peter 5:8 reads, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour”.
You see, my friends, the enemy does not want you to have anything! He wants to snatch your anointing! He wants to snatch your blessings! He wants to snatch your family! He wants to snatch your joy! The enemy wants to clean you out and leave you with nothing!
When something is snatched, it is grabbed quickly. It is removed swiftly. It is here one minute, but gone the next.
The enemy knows you are a strong man or a strong woman. The enemy knows you have the Holy Spirit. He knows you have power, but he is also watching you, and he knows when you are slacking. He also knows what it takes to pull you back out into the world—never forget he had you out there at one time!
So, in order to plunder your goods, he has to “bind the strongman”…he has to come up with a plan to get you “tied up” or “bound” in mess, drama, foolishness, and distractions.
Someone reading this message knows what I am talking about. You were minding your own business, when suddenly you found yourself tied up in marital problems. Instead of praying, you are bound by worry and fear. Instead of turning to the Lord, you are turning to drugs and alcohol, trying to numb the pain and anxiety you are experiencing. In the meanwhile, the enemy is having a field day with your goods.
Your anointing is all but gone. Your joy is gone. Your victory is gone. Your commitment is gone. Your ministry is gone.
But thanks be unto God, you will recover!
For 1 Peter 5:9-10 reads, “Resist him (satan), steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced in the world. (10) But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you”.
Okay, my friends, the enemy caught you out there and cleaned you out; however, do not give up. As a believer on Jesus Christ, the Bible tells us that after you have suffered a while, the God of all grace will perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
You will recover.
