All of us should have plans for the future—it is a good thing! However, as we learned in our message on yesterday (You Are Stronger Than You Realize!), tribulation will show up in our lives that will send our plans right out the window!
Then what? What happens when everything we planned evaporates before our eyes?
Worse, how do we handle watching the evildoers around us prosper? As we are sinking, they are rising. It just isn’t right!
We are decent people. We try our best to live Christian lives. We do not bother anyone. Yet, while we are suffering and struggling, some of the wickedest people we have ever seen are flourishing. It just isn’t right!
My friends, in our text that serves as the foundation of this inspirational message, the writer, King David, wrote these words in Psalm 37:7, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way.”
In other words, David is saying to us: Give it a rest!
You see, after we have suffered loss, our natural inclination is to recover. After we have taken a hit, we have to get back on our feet.
But what happens when it is not that simple. When there is no insurance claim to submit. When there is no money in the account to withdraw. No benefits to draw from. What do you do when all of your options have been exhausted?
Psalm 37:7 reads, “Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way.”
You see, it is a trick of the enemy to parade the schemers and the evildoers in front of you when you are struggling to hold on to your faith and trust God for your deliverance. The adversary wants you to grab hold of the first thing he dangles in your face. He wants you to date the first man who asks you out or the first woman who finds you attractive. The enemy wants you to take the first job that is offered. The enemy knows that God has something greater in store for you down the road; his assignment is to tempt you by the prosperity of the wicked. Do not fall for his devices.
Give it a rest.
David said: “Rest in the Lord.”
The Lord is coming. Trust me when I tell you, God is working on something just for you. You do not have it because it is incomplete. Not all of the pieces are together. Not all of the players are on the scene. I know you have been waiting a long time, but do not fret.
Wait patiently for Him.
Give it a rest!
