OPEN MY EYES THAT I MAY SEE
2 KINGS 6:17

In our text that serves as the foundation of this message, the people of God were facing an attack from their enemy, the King of Syria. The Bible lets us know in 2nd Kings 6:8 that the king consulted with his servants about his war plans against Israel, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”

Notice if you will that no one but the King of Syria’s servants were present at the time, but in the very next verse, the Prophet Elisha declared to the King of Israel, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.”

Upon hearing the news, the King of Israel sent someone to the location of the camp that the Prophet Elisha told him, and the Bible tells us the individual showed up to watch on more than one occasion.

As a result, the King of Syria was troubled, and he summoned his servants to find out which one of them turned on him. One of the servants in essence said, “King, we didn’t say anything, but there’s a prophet over there named Elisha who tells the King of Israel what goes on in your bedroom. You know we haven’t been up in there!”

After the King of Syria discovered that the Prophet Elisha had used his spiritual ear to eavesdrop on his devious plan, the Bible tells us that the King sent a great army by night, complete with horses and chariots, to get the Prophet Elisha, who was in Dothan, about twelve miles north of the city of Samaria.

When the army of Syria surrounded the city where the Prophet Elisha was dwelling, Elisha’s servant saw the great army, the horses, and the chariots with his natural eye and panicked!

In response, the Man of God declared, “Don’t be scared. There are more with us than there is with them.”

Elisha’s servant probably looked at Elisha as if he had lost his mind! From where he stood, it was just the two of them. There was no great army. There were no horses. There were no chariots. Additionally, because the army arrived at night, it was dark.

Someone reading this right now is looking at a similar situation. Elisha’s servant saw the great army; you see a great amount of debt piling up. Elisha’s servant saw the chariots; you see your creditors. Elisha’s servant saw the horses; you see your doctors and your medical report. Elisha’s servant saw darkness, and where you are standing, things are looking pretty dark as well.

When Elisha made his declaration, I am sure Elisha’s servant looked around and wondered: What in the world does the Prophet Elisha see that I can’t?

My friend, you are not going to make it if you only see what is in the natural! You are going to have a heart attack if you only see what is in front of you! You will end up in a psych ward if you only see what is before you! You are going to need a tranquilizer if you only see what is in your natural vision! You are going be remain discouraged if you only pay attention to what is around you! You are going to have nervous breakdown if you cannot see past the darkness!

The Prophet Elisha knew his servant had a problem with his vision, so he cried out to God on his servant’s behalf in verse 17, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And Glory to God, the Bible reads in verse 17, “Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots and fire all around Elisha.”

When the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, the servant saw the power of God surrounding the Man of God. The servant saw the anointing of God covering the Man of God. He saw the protection of God guarding the Man of God. The servant saw the Angel of God encamped around the Man of God!

When the Lord opens your eyes, you will see the mighty Hand of God moving, even in the midst of your darkest hour!

You will see God moving in everything, over everything, through everything!

I know you can’t see it.  I know you don’t believe it.  I know you’re not feeling it.  I know you’re tired of it.  But I dare you to lift your voice and declare to the Lord, “Open my eyes that I may see!”

If you have to audacity to declare it, you will see God working it out!
You will see God making a way!

If you can’t see it, keep asking God open your eyes wider until you do!

Open my eyes that I may see!

See God healing your body!
See God saving your household!
See God providing for your family!

Open my eyes that I may see!
